Disneyland’s 56th Anniversary/Birthday is Celebrated in Town Square

Today at 2:30, Disneyland had its official anniversary/birthday celebration in Town Square. Leading up to the event, Town Square was emptied with guests allowed to view the upcoming festivities from the sidewalks around Town Square and also Main Street. As people waited for this event, they began a wave that went round and round Town Square. People were in good spirits despite the heat and strong sunshine.

At 2:30, the music began and character poured into the street and made their way into Town Square to the music of A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes. They stationed themselves all around Town Square by the end of the song so that a person sitting/standing anywhere would be able to see a Disney friend. Moments later, the Disneyland announcer Bill Rogers introduced the speech that started it all. Walt Disney’s opening day speech was played again for the world to hear.

??To all who come to this happy place; welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past…and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts that have created America…with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.?

Everybody then sang Happy Birthday Disneyland. This was followed by more music as balloons were passed out by the Disney characters.

Here are photos and video from the event:
