Song Saturday: Disney Style (Touch The Sky)

Happy weekend, everyone! Yesterday, the fantastic Disney/Pixar movie Brave came out to much anticipation and is being praised for its lavish visuals and beautiful attention-to-detail to the Scottish backdrop. One of the best things about the movie was the amazing score/soundtrack. Let’s listen to Touch The Sky!

Because I want you all to go out and see this film, I’ll keep this review spoiler-free and just say that Touch The Sky is played at the beginning and end of the movie.

This is one of the best songs I’ve heard this year! It completely fits in with the rest of the film and the tone in general. It is sung by Julie Fowlis, a Scottish musician who sings primarily in Scottish Gaelic and she does an amazing job with it. Stylistically, the song is so Celtic and so folk that it makes the perfect fit for Brave. The score is incredibly Celtic, using bagpipes and other Scottish melodic motifs to represent the culture, and the song does a fantastic job complementing that.

Because I don’t want to give too much away (and I want everyone to go see this film), listen to a sample and go!
